JLPT N5 Grammar lesson 5. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce to you the JLPT N5 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Grammar structure 21 :

~てもいいです

Formation :

~‘Vてもいいです
How to convert to Vて:
V group I:
Verbs end with「く」→いて
For example, かわく→かわいて
Verbs end with 「ぐ」→いで
For example,  およぐ→およいで
Verbs end with 「む」、「ぶ」→んで
For example,  あそぶ→あそんで
なやむ→なやんで
Verbs end with 「る」、「う」→って
For example,  なる→なって
言(い)う→言(い)って
Verbs end with 「す」→して
For example,  話(はな)す→話(はな)して
V group II and V group III: V ます(minus ます)+て
For example,
たべます→たべて
来(き)ます→来(き)て
Special conjugation:
行(い)く→行(い)って
いる→いて

Explanation :

Doing something…is fine

Examples and examples’ meaning :

  1. 鉛筆(えんぴつ)を使(つか)ってもいいです。
    It’s fine to use pencil.

2.ここにタバコを吸(す)ってもいいです。
It’s fine to smoke here

Grammar structure 22 :

~と~

Formation :

~と~

Explanation :

With, together with, and
Used to describe an action you take with someone else.

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.家族(かぞく)とアメリカに(行い)く。
I and my family travel to the USA.

2.彼氏(かれし)と映画(えいが)を見(み)に行(い)った
I and my boyfriend go to the cinema.

Grammar structure 23 :

~と~

Formation :

~と~

Explanation :

And

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.英語(えいご)と日本語(にほんご)を習(なら)います。
I study English and Japanese.

2.韓国(かんこく)と中国(ちゅうごく)へ来(き)た。
I have been to Korea and China.

Grammar structure 24 :

~と言います

Formation :

V (Short form)+といいます
N+だ+といいます
Aな (minus な) + だ+ といいます
Aい+といいます

Explanation :

To say that.….

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.彼(かれ)は私(わたし)のことを愛(あい)すると言(い)います。
He says that he loves me.

2.先生(せんせい)は学生(がくせい)に「座(すわ)ったください」と言(い)いました
Teacher told students to sit down.

Grammar structure 25 :

~と思います

Formation :

V (Short form)+と思います
N+だ+と思います
Aな (minusな) +だ+ と思います
Aい+と思います

Explanation :

I think….

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.病院(びょういん)に行(い)ったほうがいいと思(おも)います。
I think of you so I go the hospital.

2.その本(ほん)高(たか)くないと思(おも)います。
I think the book isn’t expensive.

  • some transaltion are missing in the examples (i.e. example of grammar structure 6),
    and some other are WRONG (example of grammar structure 9: 行きます = I go (usually) and not I went).
    Very bad!!!

    A list of little grammar structures is indeed very helpful to study o/

    Just in the phrase 木の下に猫がいった, i think it translates to “There ‘was’ a cat under the tree”

    Just a little thing, in the grammar structure 1, example 2
    先生 の 英語 あもりがわからない
    Sensei no eigo a mori ga wakaranai means “i don’t understand the english teacher”
