JLPT N5 Grammar lesson 9. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce to you the JLPT N5 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Grammar structure 41 :

~のは~

Formation :

Clause (S+V; or sometimes contracted to be left with only V) + のは~

Explanation :

This pattern is used to verbalize nouns.

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.その本(ほん)を買(か)ったのは新宿(しんじゅく)です。
I bought that book in Shinjuku.

2.会社(かいしゃ)を休(やす)んだのは病気(びょうき)になったんです。
I took a day off because I’m sick.

Grammar structure 42 :

~のを~

Formation :

Explanation :

This pattern is used to verbalize nouns.

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.宿題(しゅくだい)をするのを忘(わす)れた。
I forgot to do my homework.

2.母(はは)の掃除(そうじ)をするのを手伝(てつだ)っている。
I help my mother with house chores.

Grammar structure 43 :

~は~

Formation :

N1はN2~

Explanation :

To be..
は used to separate the subject and the predicate in a sentence, the part behindは is information that needs to be conveyed.
Before は is the subject

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.私(わたし)は学生(がくせい)です。
I’m student.

2.その本(ほん)はリーさんの本(ほん)です。
That book is Mr Lee’s book.

Grammar structure 44 :

~へ~を~に行く/来る

Formation :

Placeへ~を~に行く/来る

Explanation :

To go, go somewhere to do something

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.床屋(とこや)へ髪(かみ)を切き)(りに(来く)る
I go to the hair salon to have my hair cut.

2.市場(いちば)へ野菜(やさい)を買(か)いに行(い)った
I went to the market to buy vegetables.

Grammar structure 45 :

~まえに

Formation :

Vる+まえに
N+の+ まえに
Nouns indicating time +まえに (Vd: 夜、朝、昼、一週間、。。。)

Explanation :

Before, in front of

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.食(た)べるまえに手(て)を洗(あら)っています。
I wash my hands before meal.

2.家(いえ)のまえに池(いけ)がある。
There is a pond in front of my house.

    some transaltion are missing in the examples (i.e. example of grammar structure 6),
    and some other are WRONG (example of grammar structure 9: 行きます = I go (usually) and not I went).
    Very bad!!!

    A list of little grammar structures is indeed very helpful to study o/

    Just in the phrase 木の下に猫がいった, i think it translates to “There ‘was’ a cat under the tree”

    Thanks for the lesson, very useful for me.

    Just a little thing, in the grammar structure 1, example 2
    先生 の 英語 あもりがわからない
    Sensei no eigo a mori ga wakaranai means “i don’t understand the english teacher”
